Proposition 65 (California, USA)

What is Prop 65? In 1986, California voters approved the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (known as “Proposition 65”). Proposition 65 is a "Right to Know" statute; its purpose is to ensure consumers are informed, prior to purchase, that the product they use contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

The State of California has listed over 900 chemicals that must be disclosed under Prop 65. The list, updated annually, includes a wide variety of chemicals found in many consumer products.

Why is there a warning label on my FORLIFA box? FORLIFA provides this warning label to comply with Proposition 65 and to inform consumers that the product may contain chemicals on the State of California’s list. For example, certain components in our styling tools may include internal metallic parts containing trace amounts of lead—an element on the Prop 65 list.

All FORLIFA products meet or exceed the requirements of applicable global product performance and safety industry standards. The presence of this label does not mean our products are unsafe, but rather reflects our commitment to full legal compliance.

I don’t live in California. Why does my FORLIFA product have this label? FORLIFA products are sold throughout the United States and internationally. To ensure logistical efficiency and total compliance with California’s strict regulations, we include these labels on all applicable products regardless of the final point of sale.

Where can I find more information about Prop 65? The State of California provides Proposition 65 information on the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) website.
